My Keys to The Donut Whole

What’s up ICT!?!?! It’s your boy Big Klotz and I’m bringing you on another journey as I eat through the best places Wichita has to offer!

I grew up in the restaurant business and my favorite part is the FOOD! Hospitality and service are important, no doubt, but that can be subjective and my goal is to celebrate the EATS!

I get the pleasure of checking out local favorites in the (3YUM6) and give you My Keys to a solid experience.

Menu items you can’t go wrong with, hidden gems, far out combos and anything that will guide you to a SUPER-FANTASTIC FOOD EXPERIENCE! #SFFE

For this adventure I took it back…not too far back, but I wanted something to feel like a kid again. Everyone loves a good donut, that’s a fact! Some people may want any donut but can’t because of unfortunate diet restrictions. Some of you are debating in your head right now if it’s ‘donut’ or ‘doughnut’….FOCUS PEOPLE!!!!

What if I told you there is a spot here in Wichita that has cemented their place in the donut kingdom AND bridged the gap to allow EVERYONE to enjoy a good donut? I present to you The Donut Whole. This has been a Wichita staple and has been blessing the city with a delicious, craveable and down right creative treats done right!

When you are driving down Douglas look for the BIG rooster (that’s Ed) on the top of the building, you have found The Donut Whole located at 1720 E. Douglas Ave. Open Sunday to Saturday, although hours may vary, The Donut Whole is looking to satisfy your donut needs 7 days a week. I will get into the donuts next, but we can’t overlook the cool ambiance created here. Great seating area with pinball games, a funky piano and an original Mortal Kombat arcade game…I honestly think I’m going to have my next birthday here.

LET’S EAT!

MAJOR KEY ALERT!!!!! GLUTEN FREE AND VEGAN DONUTS ARE OFFERED EVERYDAY NOW!!!! Big Klotz is a meat eater…Big Klotz loves his gluten… but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Man ohhhhh man, I couldn’t tell the difference! I went on a Wednesday because I was told that was the VGF (vegan gluten free) day. To my surprise, it’s everyday now!!!! (**queue the air horn**). I jumped into the Chocolate Bowl of Cereal and Berries’ Lemonade flavors. The flavor profiles on these suckers were unreal. They were moist, they were rich, and they were able to bring about great feelings in my tummy! In fact, the Berries’ Lemonade was such a #SFFE that I ate it before snapping a picture!

What I enjoyed the most of these donuts is they are all cake style donuts. But have you ever had a cake donut that was done so perfectly that it melted in your mouth?! That’s what happens here at The Donut Whole…THEY DO DONUTS JUSTICE!!! Big Klotz didn’t stop at 2 donuts…oh no, he went in! Maple Bacon, Mixed Berry Crunch and of course a Pumpkin Spice (shout out to my basic chicks). This is just to name a few more of crazy deliciousness that took place on that glorious visit to The Donut Whole. The flavors are endless and the passion and love that goes into each of these donuts is felt through and through!

- Seasonal, limited time offer themed donuts look fun…and we already know they will taste amaze-balls. So far for the spirit of Halloween, they’ve had Beetle Juice themed donuts, Nightmare before Christmas themed donuts and coming up…HOCUS POCUS themed donuts!

- Don’t sleep on the beverage menu here! Explore that too! Coffees, lattes, smoothies BOBA TEA and so much more! They definitely crush the donut game, but their libations aren’t anything to mess with either!

- MAJOR KEY ALERT!!! If you have a non-profit organization or you see an opportunity to feed the needy…GET WITH THE DONUT WHOLE! They are actively seeking to work with the community and help. Stop by and ask for Ashley if you are interested!

Friends, I put down a total of 9 donuts on this day and I have ZERO regrets. The cake style donut is a home run at this establishment and you can feel the love put into each and every one. Don’t over think it…just go to The Donut Whole and pick up one or six donuts and GO TO TOWN!!! Guaranteed to feel like a kid again and have a #SFFE

In 2018, Big Klotz sowed his roots into Wichita by way of Ohio, Florida and New Jersey. Having the experience of working in his Uncle’s deli, Big Klotz appreciates small businesses and local flavors because he understands the passion behind what it takes. Big Klotz is known to order one of everything off the menu. In 2003, he was enshrined in the Don Shula Steakhouse wall of fame for finishing a 48 Oz Porterhouse steak at the Dolphin Hotel in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Big Klotz looks to bring his big appetite to the 316 and find the best on every menu in Wichita!!
