Family Outing to Meddys

Heavenly Hummus is appropriately named. As a child, I never liked Mediterranean food. But marrying into the Lebanese culture and diet has changed that for me. While I don't wade too far into the Mediterranean culinary waters, I do find a plate piled with copious amounts of hummus, shawarma chicken and served with bottomless pita bread to be, well, Heavenly.

Downtown Meddys

While we don’t eat out often, Meddys has become a mainstay for our family of four and on an unseasonably warm winter evening that is where we found ourselves. A reasonably priced menu we can all consistently find something on that we like, a restaurant with quick service, and a $2.99 kid's meal cannot be beat.

This is a lot of food for only $2.99!

While we have tried three of their locations in town (Northeast, Downtown, Southeast) we are partial to the Northeast location. They also have a location out West and one in Maize. That evening many Wichitans agreed Northeast was a great spot for dinner because the dining area was standing room only. We anxiously circled a booth like a flock of vultures waiting to swoop in. My apologies to the couple who took their final bites that evening with us standing less than 2 feet from their table...but papa needs a place to land his plate of Heavenly Hummus, ok?!

Heavenly? I mean, c’mon…

A new feature for dine-in customers is a shareable flatbread while you wait. Of course it is fresh and delicious because, what isn't at Meddys? Splitting it into quarters, we dunked ours in the pour-it-yourself olive oil vat helping to bring a jump start to our Mediterranean dining experience.

Even the kids could share this flatbread!

Part of our meal was paid by a gift card we'd been compensated from a past experience at Meddys where we'd waited over an hour to get our food and when it did arrive it was not what we ordered. I'm all for giving restaurants second chances - one bad experience shouldn't characterize a restaurant. As a result of giving Meddys a second try, our appreciation for this Mediterranean eatery is now warm and endless, just like their pita bread.

It is always tough to choose which protein to get on the Heavenly Hummus. Which do you like?

P.S. It is a wonderful month when I get to eat Meddys once. It is an incredible month when I get to do it twice. Due to an internal department meeting at work where dining suggestions were stalled out until I suggested Meddys - this wish came true. Working downtown can have its perks sometimes. Heavenly Hummus to-go? Yes, please.

It is a surprise I didn’t lick my plate…or did I?

Update: Meddys is stepping up to help the people of Ukraine in a very purposeful way: (KWCH Story)
