Freshness at First Mile Cantine

How fresh is fresh? Well, how about straight from the garden atop the Fidelity Bank rooftop fresh? That is how fresh First Mile Cantine creates all of their meals.

You can find First Mile Cantine at 320 S Market St Suite 101 and their hours are Monday-Friday 7am-7pm and Saturdays 9am-9pm.

Since First Mile Kitchen in Bradley Fair has opened a satellite location in downtown Wichita called First Mile Cantine, it has been on my list to check out their menu. Thanks to a working lunch I got just that opportunity. Collectively, we ordered quite the spread (I have to say that so you don't think I ordered this all for myself, even though I totally could have).

I ordered the Flying Breakfast Burrito Bros - it was an excellent ratio of the expected and unexpected (like the music from the band it is named after). Fried egg on top of the burrito was a nice touch but the real game changer was the smoked brisket inside. First Mile doesn't skimp on quality or quantity! Nice proportions of the supporting cast of havarti, beans, chimichurri and pickled onion.

If pork is the king of breakfast meats, then brisket is the sneaky knave attempting to dethrone the king and upend the monarchy. And I am here for it. Speaking of brisket, the Briskuits & Gravy was also at the table and was a big hit. I did not eat it myself, but I think the swift and complete consumption speaks for itself.

On the more traditional lunch side of the table, the team had a peppercorn crusted turkey sandwich, a BLT and salmon salad. The turkey sandwich received "a solid 10" and was said to have the perfect amount of greens to meat ratio on buttery toasted bread. BLT got an "A++" for its efforts.

Alright, we need to talk about the salmon salad. Remember when I said First Mile Cantine does things fresh? Like super-fresh? Well this salad came with an extra something which was so fresh it was still crawling on the leaves. HOWEVER, once we called First Mile, they not only replaced the buggy salad they provided a free coffee, pastry, with a side of heavy apology. They were awesome about it and made sure we were taken care of and satisfied after the replacement.

Sometimes that extra buggy protein is just what you need!

By the time you are reading this, I will have returned to First Mile Cantine (at least twice) because who works dangerously close to this level of solid customer service, tasty food and freshest freshness? This guy.
