My Keys to Local Flavor Grill & Tapworks

What’s up fam?!?! It’s your boy (AIR HORN) Big Klotz and I want you to join me as I eat through the best places Wichita has to offer! You already know I grew up in the restaurant business and my favorite part is the FOOD FOOD FOOD! Hospitality and service is important too (obviously) but that can be subjective and we want to CELEBRATE the eats! Here’s the deal, I check out a local (3YUM6) favorite and give you My Keys to a solid experience. Menu items you can’t go wrong with, hidden menu items, far out combos and anything that will guide you to an #SFFE (Super Fantastic Food Experience)!

It was a family affair for lunch this time around. Mama bear and the cubs accompanied me to one of the newest establishments to bless Wichita with its goodness.

This hidden gem is Local Flavor Grill & Tapworks, located on the east side of town (5400 E. Central). Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays 11am-9pm and Sundays 11am-3pm. Honestly, the name is PERFECT for what they got going on! The atmosphere shouts ‘Wichita Proud’, the beer selection supports all your local favs (WBC, Hopping Gnome, CSB and more!) and they absolutely bring the flavor!

As you walk up you can’t help but notice the smoker right outside the building bellowing out that deep smokey scent that gets the juices flowing! LETS GOOOOOOOOO!

V Local.

Right off the bat, MAJOR KEY ALERT!!!!!!!

The Smokey Fried Thighs are SLAMMIN! You get the smoke, you get the crisp and man oh man are these suckers drip down to your elbow juicy!! The flavor on these things are ridiculous. They may be chicken thighs, but I’m going to plant my flag and say they are probably the best chicken wings in the ICT. #BigKlotzApproved. You can get them original flavor or Nashville hot. Served with ranch? Nope. Bleu cheese? Too basic. These Smokey Fried Thighs are served up with a creamy white BBQ sauce that keeps the flavor party going in with each bite!

MAJOR KEY!

Next up was the Al Pastor Nachos. Once again the mastermind in the kitchen at Local Flavor didn’t just throw cheese on these Nachos. They kick it up a notch and smother the chips with a green chili cheese sauce that has a unique smoked pepper kick of flavor. Try this out, grab that white BBQ sauce and use it on your Nachos in place of the sour cream. Creamy yummy #SFFE.

MAJOR KEY ALERT!!!!!!! #anotherone. Don’t sleep on the Pitmaster Burger! Remember that smoker, it’s all starting to make sense now, right?! You get a burger cooked to perfection, crispy bacon, SMOKED HAM AND SMOKED GOUDA!!! This burger WORKS! Try to guess what sauce I added to this one? I’m telling you, the white BBQ sauce is majestic.

Add more white BBQ sauce? Another one.

Here are some other Keys to a #SFFE at Local Flavor Grill & Tapworks:

- There IS a kid’s menu, it’s not listed but it’s there. Not to mention, the burger off the kids menu is DELICIOUS…my kids said so!

That’s…the kid’s portion…?!

-Make sure to get the sweet potato tots (check them above with the Pitmaster)! Savory and sweet, such a good complement to a burger like the Pitmaster.

- There is a wide range of adult beverage options…had my eye on the Bloody Mary (made using Boot Hill Vodka out of Dodge City!)…but again, it was a family lunch date!

Local Flavor. Literally.

- Three words: CRISPY YARDBIRD CHICKEN….I will be back for this! It’s a HALF of a chicken that is smoked then flash fried…JUST LIKE THE THIGHS! Then they get crazy with it and cascade that yummy white BBQ sauce over the bird! I saw this dish go by our table and immediately knew what I was ordering on my next visit.

Well, that’s all I got! Those are #MyKeys to a #SFFE. Make the stop and check out Local Flavor Grill & Tapworks, there is something special going on there. Bring the family or come with some friends and hang out at the bar! Whoever you bring and however you get here, make sure to grab a local brew and some flavorful eats…don’t forget the white BBQ sauce!!!
