My Keys to The Belmont

What’s up fam?!?! It’s your boy Big Klotz and I want you to join me as I eat through the best places Wichita has to offer!

I grew up in the restaurant business and my favorite part is the FOOD! Hospitality and service is important too but that can be subjective and we want to CELEBRATE the eats!

If you don’t know by now, I get the pleasure of checking out local favorites in the (3YUM6) and give you My Keys to a solid experience. Menu items you can’t go wrong with, hidden menu items, far out combos and anything that will guide you to an #SFFE (Super-Fantastic Food Experience)!

One of my favorite characteristics of any local eatery is the ability to change, morph and adapt. Whether it be changing with the season to ensure fresh ingredients or making something so stinking delicious you gotta get it while it’s hot or it’s GONE! This review is about that place…The Belmont…LET’S GET IT IN!!!

Located in the heart of College Hill, The Belmont brings a swanky flare to Wichita. Gorgeous all white structure on the outside balanced with deep colors and wood trim throughout the inside this place welcomes date night, ladies night and don’t be afraid to bring the kiddos ( WHAT?! THE KIDS?! Ohhhh yeah!). The Belmont is located at 3555 E Douglas Ave and is open Tuesdays-Fridays 3pm-11pm, Saturdays 10am-11pm, and Sundays 10am-9pm. One last thing, the high top chairs are Big Klotz approved #support. Alright, let’s eat!!!!

We are going in with a MAJOR KEY off the bat! In the famous words of Bob Marley: “Three little birds, sit by my door step.” This cocktail was amazing and gave me the same feels as that classic melody. The notes of flavor tangy from the lime, cilantro and pineapple flows smoothly into the sweetness of the agave and mango only to be kicked up with jalapeño spice! Here’s MY KEY within a key…order it twice, that’s right. Get your first one with Mezcal and your second with Wichita’s very own Una Vida tequila! It’s literally two different drinks, two separate experiences. The mezcal brings out the smoke very nicely and enhances the sweetness…on the other hand the tequila brings the tangy notes to the forefront. Mind. Blown.  Huge shout out to our server who made the spot on suggestion…winner.

For appetizers we jumped into the Pimento Potatoes. These suckers were smashed, perfectly fried and tossed in a pimento cheese sauce…C’MON!!!

Editor note from DMH - BWAH-BUH-BUH-BWAH!!!!!!

For second appetizer (that’s right…BIG Klotz, remember?) we were blessed with Fried. Green. Tomatoes. DMH, HIT ME WITH AN AIRHORN!!!! MAJOR KEY ALERT!!!!

This can honestly be a meal for some. Six thicc cut green tomatoes fried to crispy perfection on top a bed of frisée with red onion, a creamy green goddess dressing kicked up a notch with bleu cheese crumbles and a kiss of balsamic….seriously the best thing! Honestly, on my next visit I may order this as my entree and “Klotzify” it with some steak on top….I’m sure the chef would oblige.

Thicc pork belly

Believe it or not, there were entrees! We shared the Pork Belly and Jake’s Chicken Sandy. The Pork Belly was tender moist and flavorful…what was on the side of the pork belly was another level of flavor! ANOTHER KEY! I’m going to call it a bread salad…yup! Toasted French bread, snap peas, Granny Smith apples and radish tossed in a tangy yet creamy Zaatar yogurt…once again, C’MON!!!!!

Sandy for dayzzz

thiccccccc

Jake’s Chicken sandy is the type of fried chicken sandwich that will put to shame all the fast food chicken sandwich competitions. Thicc piece of chicken, perfectly fried and placed in a well constructed sandwich. MAJOR KEY ALERT!!! Order this sandwich with the bread salad as the side choice! #takemebacknow

The Belmont’s ever changing drink menu will keep you going back again and again

So wifey actually brought me to The Belmont to get into the Clifton Burger. She has raved about this upper echelon of burger with its cooked to perfection patty, perfectly toasted bun, creamy melted cheese and the glorious bacon jam. Sadly, it has left The Belmont for the time being. THATS OKAY! It’s by design! It was time, I love how they made the move knowing it was a hot item but had a “hold my beer” moment and slapped more flavor on the menu!! Besides, I’m sure it will be back….riiiiiight?

We were VERY pleased with our experience at The Belmont. The service was spot on with being knowledgeable and attentive. And whether the Clifton Burger makes a return or not, the culinary minds at this joint have your cravings and interests at heart and will make sure you leave with having an #SFFE.

Big Klotz

In 2018, Big Klotz sowed his roots into Wichita by way of Ohio, Florida and New Jersey. Having the experience of working in his Uncle’s deli, Big Klotz appreciates small businesses and local flavors because he understands the passion behind what it takes. Big Klotz is known to order one of everything off the menu. In 2003, he was enshrined in the Don Shula Steakhouse wall of fame for finishing a 48 Oz Porterhouse steak at the Dolphin Hotel in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Big Klotz looks to bring his big appetite to the 316 and find the best on every menu in Wichita!!
