New Concept at Freddy's Frozen Custard

You know we love Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers over here at (3YUM6), especially me, and I was fortunate enough to attend the soft (serve) opening at the sixth Wichita Freddy’s before they open their doors (today) April 12, 2022. We got a sneak peek on our podcast with Freddy’s founder Scott Redler but this is a very exciting new way to do Freddy’s. This new location is over at 21st and Amidon at 2021 N. Amidon Ave., Ste. 100 in the New Leaf Plaza shopping center.

The cool new concept Freddy’s is going for is this frozen custard forward style that seems to liven up the atmosphere. Oh, and there will be no drive-through option. As you can see in the pictures, the frozen custard station is right up front making the process of ordering your sweet treat that much more fun to watch and enjoy. No more will you just wait for your number to be called for your dessert, you now get to be a part of the experience.

Like I said - I was incredibly fortunate to be invited to the soft opening the day before the restaurant opens to the public. I had the option to come by between 5:00pm and 7:00pm, and I showed up a few minutes after 5:00pm and the place was already hopping. Not surprising, Wichita loves Freddy’s! My in laws were in town and I had promised to eat dinner with them, so I had to ask a kind employee if I could sneak in to take a few photos and check it out. I will say this - they had the line moving fast and people were not waiting long to order.

The place looked awesome - exactly like every Freddy’s you have ever stepped foot in besides, of course, the frozen custard station. I spoke with a young employee (I guess I am getting old) who was very excited for the grand opening and working for Freddy’s. She talked to me about how much creamier frozen custard is than ice cream and how she was ready to dole out the creaminess to the Wichita public.

I am sure I looked like a total dweeb and the staff was very confused as to why I was there because of course I had to rock my Freddy’s shirt they gave me after winning Freddy’s MVP back in 2015. I am surprised they let me in to take photos and did not try to put me to work! What can I say - I am a total Fred Head!

Check out that patio seating!

This new spot is going to be open 10:30am to 10:00pm Sunday through Thursday and 10:30am to 11:00pm Friday and Saturday. This year will mark 20 years of Freddy’s and this is the sixth Freddy’s in Wichita along with Wichita State University’s Rhatigan Student Center and at the Riverfront Stadium concession area.
