My Keys to 6S Steakhouse

What’s up fam?! It’s your boy Big Klotz and I am back and hope you will join me as I eat through the best places Wichita has to offer! I grew up in the restaurant business and my favorite part is the FOOD! Hospitality and service is important, too, but that can be subjective and we want to CELEBRATE the eats!

As always, I check out a local (3YUM6) favorite and give you “My Keys” to a solid experience. Menu items you can’t go wrong with, hidden menu items, far out combos and anything that will guide you to an #SFFE (Super Fantastic Food Experience)!

(NEW HASHTAG ALERT!)

Today I wanted to celebrate some pretty significant accomplishments by my staff (shout out Miles and Jerrod!) and wanted to make it a special treat. I couldn’t do a basic lunch…we had to GO BIG! So we hit up 6S Steakhouse on the west side of town.

6S Steakhouse is located at 6200 West 21st. North, Wichita, KS 67205. They are open Sundays through Thursdays 4:30pm-9:00pm, and Fridays and Saturdays 4:30pm-10:00pm. Walking up to this joint screams special event! The view from the outside of the chandelier in the foyer just POPS and you just know you are in for a good time.

Bling Bling!

The dining room looks like it’s a scene out of the Great Gatsby and the music fit the decor…this place is perfect for any date night, celebration or special event…let’s get to the food!!!

Right out of the gates…MAJOR KEY ALERT!!!! Don’t sleep on the dinner bread. It’s more than that…it’s hot and fresh…it’s steamy and creamy…it’s golden brown and flakey…it’s a Popover Roll, served with a pad of butter seasoned with sea salt. Honestly, the butter is just a formality. This piece of starchy goodness is made with egg and charred…not smoked…CHARRED cheddar cheese. You definitely taste the creaminess of the egg in the dough and the aroma of the fresh herbs just do work on your sense of smell. Just when you felt it was a good bite, that smokey charred cheese takes over and escorts you to wanting more…trust me, ask for another one…another one…

For the table, we ordered the Blistered Shishito Peppers. The peppers were blistered and charred to perfection. The sauce was a combination of garlic soy and Sriracha aioli. Although a lighter option for an appetizer, they were addictive and delicious!

Another one…My Key to your entree choice isn’t one of the steaks (we will get into those, though) it was actually off the House Favorites area of the menu…a “Composite” dish…a true understanding of the creative mind of the house chef! I dove into the Cheshire Pork Tomahawk. Cooked to tender perfection, this large cut of meat was topped with a bacon glaze that stole the show! It wasn’t just a sauce or glaze in my opinion, it was more like a chutney but made with bacon…my new favorite kind of chutney! The chop sat on top of a parsnip puree and was accompanied by 3 perfectly fried potato croquettes that were filled with a creamy potato purée, herbs and…more bacon!

Look at that hunk.

My guests rightfully ordered off the steak menu. On my left was the 12oz KC strip that was dry aged for 28 days. Boyyyy it was thiccc…that’s right…triple ‘c’ thiccc. Ordered medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. On my right was the 16oz rib-eye. The cut speaks for itself and the kitchen staff did it justice and cooked it to medium rare perfection!

Boy she’s thiccc!

Cannot go wrong with any of the steak options.

Safe to say we had a fantastic meal and I look forward to going back and exploring the menu further. Maybe The Pig Out Bros can take on the 60 day dry aged bone in 32oz rib-eye? (Don’t tempt me with a good time!)

Here are some other Keys to an #SFFE at 6S Steakhouse:

⁃ Go early, they open at 4:30…enjoy your time. Although I was able to indulge tonight, I would totally wrap up the meal at the bar with some after dinner drinks…especially on a Thursday or Friday (see next Key)

⁃ Live Music at the bar on Thursdays and Fridays at the bar. Tonight, local Wichita singer/songwriter Whitnie Means was strumming on the guitar and bringing the atmosphere to life!

⁃ Before you stop at the bar, take the restaurant tour! Another key to going early, you will have a better chance of taking the tour. The Joe and Esther room is a very special room for the owners, the Steven family, and is shared with their guests! The final stop of the tour, the kitchen! Say hello to the chef and staff that put together such a beautiful bacon glaze!

Which one should I pick?!

⁃ FINAL KEY: if it’s your first time, they give you a free desert!!! Our server took care of us and dished out a Cookies and Cream cheesecake and the 6S Warm Butter cake…stahhhhhhp! Silly good!

Cookies and Creamy goodness

What what?!

That’s it fam! Those are My Keys to a successful experience. So grab a loved one, get a couple of friends together, find something to celebrate, and head over to 6S Steakhouse.
